Smokey Bear Trail Ride

Smokey Bear is turning 80 this year.  To celebrate, all the local fire departments (DOTY, Crooked Lake, Lakewood, Townsend, Riverview and Mountain), along with the Crooked Lake firewise site, the DNR and US forest service are sponcering an ATV trail ride.  No atv?  All stops are accessible via car.

The event is Saturday June 15th from noon to 6 pm.  Get a punch card at any participating fire department the day of the ride for $5 and visit each location to get it stamped.  Each stamp gets you an entry for a smokey bear commerative item (upto 8 entries per card).  Most raffle items are valued from $25 to $50.

Start at any fire station.  Maps and directions are available.  Fire safety and prevention events are occuring at each stop.  Events include hands on fire extinguisher use, wild land fire fighting, demo of new vehicles, ice cream, soda, penny press and more (not all events at each station).  Hours of each station vary, but all are available for at least 4 hours.

The day wraps up at LAKEWOOD at the park where smokey bear will be present.  Enjoy beverages, food and a DJ.  50/50 and other raffles will occur as well as a large raffle with prizes including a 32″ stainless steel fire pit, $500 in cash, a stihl Chain saw, 2 noght stay at Spur of the Moment Ranch and a gas grill.  Raffles tickets for these prizes will be sold ahead of time at the fire stations/town halls as well as some local businesses.
